Sometimes meal planning can get repetitive and mundane.  Bring a little excitement to your next camping trip with these fun tin foil recipes.  It will take you back to memories of your childhood scout camping trips.  We’ve rounded up some yummy recipes from top bloggers that will make your life a little easier and bring some fun back to preparing meals.  It’s a great way to get your kids to help out with meal prep. 

If there are particular ingredients that aren’t a favorite, they can simply be omitted.  And if you don’t want to worry about washing dishes,  you can eat right out of the foil and then ball it up and throw it in the trash!  Easy peasy!! If it’s raining…don’t worry dinner plans aren’t ruined, you can bake the tin foil wraps in the oven.

Tips For Making Foil Packet Meals

  • Make a menu plan and ingredient list before your camping trip
  • Use heavy-duty aluminum foil.  Make sure to have cooking spray on hand
  • Use two sheets of foil.  It can help prevent any leaking or ripping
  • Make sure you completely seal the packets.  Tightly crimp the seams to keep liquids from leaking out
  • Preheat grill and place packet directly on the grate 
  • Follow the directions on rotating and flipping the packets
  • Be careful when opening the packet after cooking.  To prevent burning yourself, you can poke a small hole to let the steam escape
  • Meal prep the day before (slice veggies and meat)

Common Questions About Foil Packet Meals

| Can you make foil packets ahead of time?

Yes! you can make your foil packets ahead of time and store in cooler or fridge.  Just be sure to use heavy duty aluminum foil, and if the ingredients are heavy double up on the foil. Making the packets ahead of time is such a time saver and makes dinner prep so easy.  Just preheat the grill and you’re ready to start cooking.

| Is it safe to cook with aluminum foil in the oven?

Yes it is safe.

| Which side of aluminum foil keeps heat in?

It makes no difference which side you use.  The difference in the shiny and dull side is due to the manufacturing process.  However, if you are using non-stick wrap…the dull side is the non-stick side.

| Can I freeze things in foil?

Yes. Heavy-duty aluminum foil is perfect for freezing.

| How long to cook tin foil dinners in the fire?

Cook foil packet away from the direct flame for 20-30  minutes (or until meat is done) making sure to carefully rotate and flip to keep food from burning.
